Under 8s succumb to the dreaded penalty shoot out!!!!

The under 8s summer tour hit Hollingworth today and after the long distance trip to Frodsham we didn’t expect to lose any parents but Dane’s managed to make a wrong turn on the way to this far flung paradise Wink

This tournament was a tough one. It contained 3 sides from the EMJFL division 1 along with a very strong Hattersley side from the top Tameside division and a very tough and very impressive Wythenshaw Town team. The B team were first up and started with a win, a score draw, and a narrow loss putting them second in their division. The lads worked extremely hard as they pushed teams from higher divisions to the limit and showed they have what it takes to compete in next seasons league campaign. A special mention has to go to Zack who volunteered to go in goal for the team since our normal keeper could not make it. Zack was superb pulling off some fabulous saves and with Fabio on the sidelines after the disasters in South Africa it surely won’t be long before Zack gets the call!!! The B team finished a very creditable 4th out of 8 in their division and considering the strength of the division they really excelled and did us all proud.

As before the A team were in a very tough division with 3 division 1 “A” teams and the very impressive Wythenshaw Town team. They started with 3 straight wins beating both Spurley Hey “A” and Wythenshaw to storm to the top of the league which they kept up until the very last game where they got pipped to second in a 3 way tie with 3 teams on 15 points each and thus goal difference separated them. However if a very good goal had not been disallowed in a Frank Lampard v Germany moment they would have topped the league on their own. The lads all worked hard today and eventually succumbed to the dreaded penalty shoot out in the semi-final. The team did not concede a single goal all day, and did not lose a single game so it was heart breaking for them to lose on penalties which was the only way anybody managed to find the back of our net.

Well done lads for two outstanding team performances on a hot day against a set of very high quality opponents.

Under 8s take Cheshire and North Wales by storm with tournament win

The under 8s summer tour hit Cheshire and North Wales today to see if the current good form can continue after taking the East Manchester tournament last month. On a hot day in a foreign land (well to our lot anyway!!!) the lads went up against a new set of teams at a new venue. We were first on and played the hosts from Frodsham and kicked off the tournament with a draw which didn’t reflect the play with even the Frodsham coach saying we deserved the win. The lads kicked on though and asserted themselves as they strung several wins together to take the tournament win for the lads who were put in the under 8s division 1 section.

The final tally was 4 wins, 2 draws scoring 12 and conceding only 1 which was scored from a direct free kick.

Well done lads for an outstanding team performance on a hot day against a new set of teams.

FLEDGLING footballers have kicked-off a scheme to get more youngsters involved in sport outside of school.

Training sessions run by coaches from Chadderton FC Juniors have been going down a storm with pupils at Bare Trees, Burnley Brow, Mills Hill and St Luke’s primary schools.

The gang are now looking forward to a spring soccer festival at The Radclyffe School in Chadderton on April 30.

Chadderton FC Juniors chairman Peter Hamilton said: “It is basically about generating interest among the younger children to attend our soccer school and progress on to our under-sevens and under-eights teams.

“We can put adverts in the paper, we can put flyers around, but the children really get a feel of what we are like by doing the sessions.

“We have probably had more than 60 children come through to join the club. There are also a lot of Asian children coming.”

Chadderton FC Juniors was formed in 1992 and has around 250 children playing in 13 teams from under-sevens to under-16s, plus 30 attending its soccer school at the all-weather pitch at Radclyffe.

The club has just received the FA’s Charter Standard Development Club status, which recognises quality clubs. It has also been asked to run taster sessions for North Chadderton’s feeder primary schools.

“It’s really been an exciting last six months or so for the club,” added Mr Hamilton.

The sessions are part of the High Quality School Club Links initiative set up by the Greater Manchester Sports Partnership.
