Despite the horrendous conditions, Chadderton FC Juniors U8's competed in the Failsworth Dynamoes (Matty Dalton) Tournament on Sat 30th June held at Paddock Lane School, Failsworth.

Even though the team had been drawn in a tough group including Failsworth Rangers A, Failsworth West A, Heyside B and Tournament hosts Failsworth Dynamos. Chadderton began the Competition strongly winning their first group game 5 - 0. Ryan Hamer Flitcroft leading the way with a hattrick.........

Making such a strong start to the competition seemed to fill the team with confidence and they went onto win 5 of their 6 group games. The toughest match was against Failsworth Rangers  A, were despite taking the lead and dominating possession conceded a late equiliser.

In such a tightly contested group this draw meant that both Chadderton and Failsworth Rangers A finished the group level on points. Goal Difference settled the positions with Rangers getting the better by one goal.

The Quarter Finals saw Chadderton drawn against Pennine A. In the worst conditions of the day Chadderton seemed to have run out of steam. With the game drifting towards a 0-0 draw and penalties looming, Jack Noble won the ball in the Pennine half  and drilled the ball into the bottom corner to the delight of the very wet parents.

Through to the Semi Finals, Chadderton were drawn against a useful Failsworth Dynamos team hoping to reach the finals of their own competition.

Unfortunately for them, Chadderton had regained their form and after a strong start ran out comfortable 3 - 0 victors.

So, for the 2nd time in 3 competitions the U8s had reached the Final.

Facing them in the Final were local rivals Heyside, who had squeezed passed favourites Failsworth Rangers in the 2nd Semi Final.

The Managers selected their starting line ups, the referee blew the whistle and the Final had begun.

With both teams possessing superb defenders, chances were limited and despite pressing hard in the closing minutes, Chadderton were unable to force home a winner.Normal time ended with score 0 - 0.Extra Time came and went with neither side able to press home an advantage..

Penalties......

Having lost their previous final on penalties only 3 weeks prior and the previous week having been knocked out in the same way at the Quarter Final stage there was an certain apprehension amongst the Parents, supporters and managers.

This was increased when Heyside won the toss and elected to shoot first, 3 penalties each then if needed sudden death.

Heyside's  1st penalty ..................... A wonder save by Kane Strafford

Jordan Richardson to put Chadderton in front .............SCORES

Heyside's 2nd penalty....................Squeezes under Kane to level the score.

Harry Cooper to maintain the advantage......................SCORES

Heyside need to score....................ANOTHER WONDER SAVE

CHADDERTON WIN.................................CHAMPIONS
