U11’s V Littleborough (Away) 27/04/2008 We were determined to finish the season in style but again match preparations were not ideal. A couple of players had missed their pick-up @ the red barn. Ten minutes before kick-off we only had nine players! Eventually another player turned up so we started the game with ten but within minutes the other players eventually arrived. The starting eleven: Paul Mullen (goal), Ross Whitworth (right-back), Joe McDonald (left-back) and reunited in the middle of defence Louis Gilligan and Harrison Grant. Ryan Mason, Bradley Humphries, Aaron Holton, Jack Nadin and Liam Eadsforth again working in the midfield engine room with the remit to get forward and support Wes Williams upfront. Reece Mellor started as sub, but was introduced into the game fairly early to give him a good run out. Reece has been very patient in the last few weeks and deserved his chance to impress. The pitch was fairly wet and during constant drizzle the ball was skidding quickly across the surface making it tricky for the two goalkeepers. We created a hatful of chances, but for some wayward finishing and smart goalkeeping could have easily added to our tally of five. The scorers in the 1st half were Liam Eadsforth, an own goal, Wes Williams and Harrison Grant (2). Half time 5 – 0 It was important to keep our concentration and try and keep a clean sheet. We kept the passing football going and didn’t try to over elaborate or take too many players on, which was good to see. Littleborough to their credit kept plugging away and forced Paul Mullen into a couple of saves. Aaron Holton and Joe McDonald got their names on the score-sheet in the 2nd half. Wes Williams and Liam Eadsforth added another one each, and Harrison Grant added another two, to try and stake his claim to be the teams leading goal-scorer – not bad for a centre half. Wes Williams I’m sure will have other ideas! Man of the match was Ryan Mason who threw himself into every tackle and showed a tremendous work-rate! Full time 11 - 0
