HARD work paid off for Chadderton Juniors FC, who were named Manchester FA Charter Standard Development Club for 2009.

The forward-thinking outfit were chosen for their efforts in promoting football at grassroots level and becoming a valued member of the local community.

They run 13 teams from under-sevens to under-16s, and are still looking to expand with the new season looming large.

Chadderton want to form an under-10s girls team as they attempt to further enhance their profile.

The club, formed in 1992, are attracting youngsters aged four years and upwards from all backgrounds to their football school — it was set up last year — which provides a link to their mini programme.

They have also forged a partnership with Radclyffe School and their five primary feeder schools — Bare Trees, Burnley Brow, Christ Church, St Luke’s and Mills Hill — to assist in the recruitment of new players.

In return, the club sends coaches into the schools to conduct taster sessions during and after curriculum time. This is done in conjunction with Manchester FA Football Development and Oldham Sports Development.

The club have also secured a grant from the Football Foundation to run youth teams after under-16s level to bridge the gap between junior and open-age football.

Continually striving to increase their pool of 20 coaches, more are in the process of obtaining their FA level one badge.

Chairman Peter Hamilton said: “This has been a very productive year for the club, and the future promises to be both challenging and rewarding.

“The hope is to keep it going by attracting new blood and new ideas to push us forward.”
