On Saturday 19th September we played Reddish North End. We had lots of early chances through good early play. Danny and James both made good crosses and balls through. The most unlucky was MIkey. Danny put in a great cross, Mikey made a good header but it hit Ryan on the back and deflected away from goal. It wasn’t long before he did get his goal though. Danny took the ball into the area. He showed great determination to keep going. Eventually he was tackled and the rebound came out to Mikey who had a great shot into the top corner. The second goal was pure genius from Sean. He picked up the ball in defence and passed a super ball across the pitch into the area. James latched on to the ball and fired it into the bottom corner. James again scored the third. This time it was good football from Ryan and Mikey which set up the striker. Ryan passed to Mikey who put a great ball over for James who had all the time in the world to draw the keeper and lob the ball over him into the net.Liam, Danny, Mikey and James at this point were outstanding. Man of the match and Manager’s man of the match Liam was playing his best game of the season so far. He commanded midfield. Danny was on fire on the wing and Mikey and James were murdering the defence with their speed. At the back nothing was coming through the defence. Warren, Sam, Sean and Scott had everything covered. The one worrying moment we had was saved brilliantly by Connor and Ben. They saved a certain goal. Ben did everything right to close the man down but he rounded him and looked a definite to score in an open net until Connor came flying back from nowhere to finish him off with a super tackle. Connor again was playing well; tackling well and putting some super balls over. Kyle also impressed in his first game. He was composed and made some good tackles – none more brilliant than when he chased back, not giving up even though the opponent had a few yards on him. He caught him with a super tackle. Unbelievable.Around half time we went a little quiet and allowed them to get two goals back from sloppy set pieces. At this point the game could have gone either way but impressively we didn’t panic or let our heads drop but it seemed to spur us on and again we started to pepper their goal. It seemed for a while like nothing would go in until James completed his hat trick. Mikey made this through super play. He didn’t give up. He took the ball in, shot, the keeper saved but he kept going and latched onto the rebound near the goalline, kept it in and crossed it across to James on the far post to shoot it in.The fifth was equally as good but for a different reason. Danny scored a sensational goal from the touchline – right in the top corner. Absolutely brilliant!Ryan then rounded off the scoring. Ben made a super kick over to Sean who took it up the wing and sliced a perfect ball through to Ryan who shot from the edge of the area. 6-2. Another win and another good win. A win by playing good football and through good teamwork. As Ben said (yes Ben!!!!) when they were resorting to some less than savoury tactics ‘Let’s play football’ – and that is what we did.
