Chadderton FC U8’s 3 – 1 Springhead AFC With no league game this week we managed to arrange a game in the Bowlee mini soccer league and were matched up to play the strongest side in this league. The game was 7 aside and played on a pitch as wide as Wembley!!!. So a new team, a new format, and playing on grass ensured our team needed to be sharp and not let themselves get undone by a Springhead team who won 10 – 0 The week before. The game kicked off and it became clear that Springhead had some strong players not afraid to get stuck in. Fortunately for us and unfortunately for Springhead we have a few of those ourselves and our lads ensured Springhead did not get their own way. As the game progressed we started to find our feet and went ahead after an excellent goal from Louis that was well deserved as we started to play some excellent football in the first period. From the restart our lads grew in confidence and Madjid scored the second for us as we dominated the midfield battle. By now though we really should have been 4 or 5 up and will need to work on our finishing and composure in front of goal. Moving into the third period of the game we camped out in the Springhead half and made the classic mistake of everyone wanting to score leaving us with too many in the box getting in the way and nobody at the back. This caused us to concede a very late and very soft goal straight from a goal kick that got punted up the middle and through our last line of defence which was about 5 yards in front of the Springhead goal!!!. This left their lad with an easy tap in despite the efforts of Connor who was like a man mountain in nets for us ;) Well played everyone and keep it up.
