Injury hit Chadderton Youth visited 2nd placed Failsworth Dynamo who have won 7 and lost only 1. Only 11 players available for Chadderton, no substitutes available.
League match V Failsworth Dynamos.
Rain through Friday and Saturday provided a heavy surface to play on.
A determined Chadderton team took to the field against high flying Failsworth Dynamos, determined to end the poor performances of the last two weeks.
From the start Chadderton played with grit, closing the opposition down and not allowing Failsworth any time on the ball. The goalkeeper Alex T played his part coming quickly out of his nets to prevent shooting opportunities. All players played their part and the teamwork paid off in the 20th minute when Matt P slipped the ball past the goalkeeper for his 7th of the season. Mark L had been thrown in the deep end as he experienced his first game playing in central defence, a role he quickly settled down to. Ashley M found the role of right midfield energy sapping informing the parent supporters exactly what he thought of his own fitness levels. But he carried on running and running. A controversial penalty decision against CJ, but the penalty was shot against the upright. Somebody somewhere had been watching and had intervened.
Half time Failsworth 0 Chadderton 1. A well deserved score.
The Failsworth team disappeared to the dressing rooms for some kind of vocal entertainment from their manager. On return to the pitch Chadderton Youth were lined up waiting from them. The worry on the faces of the Failsworth players and supporters was obvious. Chadderton stuck to their game plan, a disallowed goal,
The players gave their all but with 10 minutes to go the Chadderton defence was breached and the score 1 – 1. Chadderton gritted their teeth and themselves had a couple of goal opportunities. Four minutes to go and a long ball found two Failsworth strikers (?off side?)and the game was 2 -1. It would have been easy for Chadderton to give in, but for the remaining time plus extra time they fought hard to get a point but to no avail.
A hard clean fought match by both teams.
Every Chadderton player can hold their head high.
Man of the match was given to CJ but all players were the manager and supporters men of the match.
Next week home v Waterloo FC. Kick off 1030 at Radclyffe.
