Under 8’s Match Report – 27th Feb 2010

Under 8s A  5 – 1  FC Sports A

Conner – 1 Goal

Louis – 2 Goals

Morgan – 2 Goals

Man of the Match – Morgan – 2 quality strikes

“It’s just like watching Brazil, it’s just like watching Brazil” is how the chant goes from the terraces and today the A team were superb. We started off strongly as Danny provided a couple of good crosses which we didn’t convert but served notice to FC sports that the lads were up for this one and would not be taking any prisoners. Unfortunately and against the run of play FC sports went 1 up from a corner which spurred the lads on as we needed now to score 4 goals to ensure an overall win on the 2 games. After our earlier missed chances Morgan got his shooting boots on and scored two cracking goals. The first one went in off the underside of the crossbar, and the second from just inside the FC Sports half caught their keeper off his line and flew over his head and dipped into the top of the net (Excellent technique taken from the training ground on Friday Wink). We witnessed some real quality from the lads today who simply swept FC Sports away today who will not have been given a harder game all season. The lads bagged another 3 with some outstanding one touch football which simply ripped the FC Sports defence to shreds as Louis, Morgan, Conner, and Danny passed the ball around them and moved into the space created. At the back Jack and Madjid kept FC Sports at bay with a solid defensive display that ensured any chances were limited with Mussa also doing some good work in the middle. The game finished 5-1 but the FC Sports keeper did well keeping the score down denying Danny twice from 2 volleys at close range and also denying Conner and Louis as they rained shots in on the FC Sports goal.

So far this season the team have now scored 77 goals and conceded 14 (5 of them in one game!!!) and those statistics show a team that is putting away its chances but is also defending superbly. Today I noted how they played as a team, they helped each other, gave high fives, shook hands on substitutions, etc, etc. That’s good to see because then we all improve and we get results like this against a very well rated team.

Well done lads and keep it up.

Under 8s B  0 – 2  FC Sports B

Man of the Match – Ubaida – Did well in defence today with some important challenges

A tough game today for the lads as FC Sports being low on players had a couple of their A team lads playing in this game. The team had a new goalkeeper with Trey today in for his debut in the black and red of Chaddy and Dominic finally got his kit!!!!!!! The lads started brightly with Dominic nearly opening the scoring for us after some good work up front but unfortunately FC Sports were the first to score making it 0-1 and doubled their tally soon after. Ubaida worked hard at the back and kept the score down with some excellent tackles with Zack working alongside him to try to contain a spirited FC Sports attack. Raheem worked tirelessly to create in midfield alongside Adam and Reece but FC Sports had a couple of players from their A team who were quick and tricky enough to unlock our defence making it hard for the lads to break out of defence and attack.

Second half and on came the dynamic duo of Daniel and Micheal. Daniel worked hard to force chances with both of them giving FC sports more to think about as we started to put some pressure on them looking to grab a goal back. The lads worked hard today against a strong team but we need to get our tackles in quickly and not allow opposition players to run at us which makes it more difficult to defend. We also need to listen in training with regards to holding our positions as that is one of the key ingredients to winning a football game. Holding position creates space and gives an outlet for the player in possession of the ball who can pass it wide and stretch the opposition.

Unlucky today lads as they did have a couple of A team players in there and lets look forward to next week against Heyside who the B team have an excellent record against.
