On the 9th May we went to Breaks – effectively with nine men! The cry was oh well! Never mind. Last game of the season, go out and enjoy it. We weren’t expecting any more than that – and to get beat heavily. But the lads had other ideas!!!!!! In an absolutely superb first half performance we came in at 0-0. Everyone played their hearts out and gave all they had got. We frustrated them, covered all the field to stop them playing and put some really nice attacks together ourselves to really worry them. Things went slightly awry in the second half when tiredness played a part and we let their tactics niggle away at us. But we still managed to keep the second in the league to only three goals and managed to nick one ourselves from James. All played extremely well – unbelievably well. They showed character and spirit and kept closing down and closing down despite being stretched all over the pitch. Somehow they got there. The man of the match was Danny who has been awesome in net. He is still learning and this was evident when the third goal went in and he said he couldn’t see past the wall. But he has done the team a massive favour and can only get better next year. And he is not doing badly now. He made some very good saves and decisions today. James is continuing to make a name for himself as far as the manager is concerned. Again he was impressed with his spirit, strength and hold up play and he gained the manager’s man of the match. He did cover a lot of ground and put in a lot of work covering midfield to put balls through to Mikey and up front to try and create chances for himself. And he took his goal well. Just behind him though, for me, must have been Sean and Liam. They were outstanding. Both tackled and tracked and attacked like there was no tomorrow. Defensively a brilliant combination. A unit. T.J, ben and Stephen also chipped in well here. All put in the performance of their lives to ensure Breaks had a very frustrating time. Three goals tells the tale of how brilliant a defensive display this was. And they built the platform for Mikey, ben and James to then create chances further forward. And these three worked hard too. Mikey scampering around, Ben, strong and straight and James… Well we’ve already noted his contribution! Not an ideal way to end the season – but in a way a superb way to end the season as we showed what we can do. We can be proud and I feel much happier with the result and performance than Breaks felt.
