                                          Match Report by Deb Coleman

On the 5th November we played Oxford Park and again started off by showing how we are the masters of the off side trap. Again the back line was solid. The number of managers and referees that have commented on this this season has been notable. Well organised and proficient is the back four lead well by Sean and Danny. Today again Sean was controlling well. Jack and Simon also put in some nice early tackles.

At the other end Julius put a good cross in to Luke who just couldn’t connect. Shortly after the man of the match and manager’s man of the match was there again. This time Luke streamed on to the ball, beat the keeper and slotted into the bottom corner. No loss of connection. No mistake.

Luke was certainly involved in a lot of the play. Sam passed to him. He then put a great ball to James in the middle. He streamed through and there was a surefire goal when he was pulled back incorrectly for offside. Then Liam passed to Luke who again found James. This time no offside decision. He beat the keeper to net the ball.

Number three did not involve the man of the match. It was a pearler from Liam. He hit a belter. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced over the line.

Sean put in an excellent free kick which had chances of going in on its own, Ben latched on and headed on and the keeper saved.

Back at the back Eliot and Jack were closing down well. Jack was very cool in defence, tracking players and calmly taking the ball off them.

Julius put a great ball to James who controlled well before putting it over the top to Luke. He danced onto the ball before slotting across goal into the corner.

For number five Julius collected the ball and smashed into the net.

Number six was good build up. Ndaba shot through the middle, passed across to Julius on the wing. He continued up the wing and put a good cross in to James. He shot. The ball came out to Luke who controlled it brilliantly on the by line before passing back to Ben. He shot. The rebound came out to James who made sure.

Darius put a great cross in but it was too long. James ran for a loose ball on the wing, controlled it and put a great ball in for Luke to head. Ndaba made a good clearance which went to Ben who made a good run through the middle. He passed to James who passed wide to Luke who was pulled back for another dubious offside.

Number seven involved good play in the box. James to Ben to Luke who slammed home. Julius scored number eight. He shot down the wing and powered his way to the edge of the area where he unleashed a shot which cut across goal and went in the bottom corner.

Darius and Luke then put a nice move together before passing the ball to Ben to produce a good shot. Luke then drove the ball down the wing to the by line. He kept going in and out of challenges, weaving in and out. He then crossed across goal from the goal line but James couldn’t connect. James did connect for the last goal though. He was set up in the middle, left the defence in a pile of dust before smashing home.

Julius steamed down the wing, powering his way through challenges, cut inside and shot just wide. Great run. Great strength. Luke also showed great strength to lose his man. He crossed in to James but he was too far away to make a good connection.

It was at this point that the supreme Luke was withdrawn when the manager asked Sean to choose a player to replace. Not surprisingly he picked a striker! Still Luke had done enough to win the accolades, richly deserving the man of the match after a stupendous performance. He deserved a rest.

Ben put in a great block. Ndaba chased a loose ball well, he passed back to Jack, it clipped his heel and bounced out to Sam. He passed back to Jack. Ndaba then put a nice ball through to Liam. Simon put in a good cross to James. Sam passed to Ben who passed to striker Sean. He slotted the ball in the net but was deemed offside. Jack passed to Sam who passed to Ben. All this was good play. Then Sean saw his shot saved after he had pounced on a loose ball following a shot from Julius which hit the bar. Julius went on an excellent run and passed the ball to Sean who was again pulled back for offside. Oh Striker Sean! It wasn’t to be. He even pleaded with the ref after the match to let his ‘goal’ stand but it wasn’t to be…
